Man United head coach Ruben Amorim discusses his plans for the misfiring Marcus Rashford

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim hints that English forward Marcus Rashford will have an important role to play under him.

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has hinted that Marcus Rashford will have an important role to play under him, with the Portuguese insisting that the attacker can play in all three positions in the final third of the field.

The Red Devils are expected to switch to a 3-4-3 formation under Amorim, and there have been suggestions that Rashford could miss out on a spot in the first XI due to the likely change in the set-up.

Bruno Fernandes is expected to be one of the number 10s behind the centre-forward, which is likely to be Rasmus Hojlund, while Alejandro Garnacho is Man United’s leading goalscorer this term and should also be in the side.

Amad Diallo has also been one of the team’s most productive players of late, with the Ivory Coast international making a big impression.

Rashford’s future under Amorim has been the subject of speculation, but the new Man United head coach has insisted that the academy product is a part of his plans, with a role as the striker not being ruled out.

“Rashy is training very well. He can play the three positions in front, so it’s a good thing. He will be ready on Sunday,” Amorim told MUTV ahead of the Premier League clash with Ipswich Town.

Rashford role discussed by Amorim amid recent speculation

Rashford has scored four times and registered three assists in 18 appearances for Man United this season, but he has struggled in the Premier League, only managing one goal and one assist in 11 outings.

The Englishman has only completed the full 90 minutes on three occasions in the Premier League this season, while he has not netted in England’s top flight since the middle of September.

Rashford’s future remains the subject of speculation, with Paris Saint-Germain said to have a long-standing interest in the forward, who has a contract at Old Trafford until June 2028.

The attacker is believed to be determined to turn his career around at Man United, but it remains to be seen how he performs in the new set-up, with a decision potentially having to be made next summer if he continues to struggle.

Could the change in system suit Rashford?

Rashford has never convinced as a striker, but if he can find some form through the middle, then it would not be a surprise to see him in that position on a regular basis, particularly due to the competition for the spots behind.

Amad, Garnacho and Fernandes should all be ahead of Rashford in the thinking of Amorim when it comes to form, but the fact that the Englishman did not feature during the November international break could stand him in good stead when it comes to a possible spot in the XI against Ipswich on Sunday afternoon.

Rashford has made 420 appearances for Man United in all competitions, scoring 135 goals and registering 63 assists, including 84 goals and 40 assists in 283 appearances in the Premier League.
