SHARON, Pa. (WKBN) — Just four days away from Thanksgiving now, and local food banks are busy.
Alexis Spence-Locke with the Mercer County Food Bank says gearing up for the holiday season is just part of their day-to-day work.
She says rising costs have been difficult to keep up with and they always welcome help from the community.
For every $1 donated, the food bank can provide four meals.
“The holidays always see a surge in neighbors needing a little extra help,” Spence-Locke said. “I can tell you right now, looking from last year to this year right now, we’re seeing a 14 percent increase in our highest numbers from last year. More and more neighbors are turning to the charitable food system for assistance.”
The Mercer County Food Bank only serves Mercer County residents, but Spence-Locke says whether you live in the county or not, you can contact the food bank at 724-981-0353 and they will help connect you to a pantry in your area.
