Jennifer Lopez is all-out supporting presidential candidate Kamala Harris, and she’s recently joined her in a rally in Las Vegas to promote and raise awareness on the importance of voting. The pop singer also shares why she’s endorsing Harris and Tim Walz.
This is not the first time the Latina music diva engaged in political campaigns as she previously displayed support for Hillary Clinton when the latter went against former president Donald Trump in 2016.
Jennifer Lopez Once Supported Hillary Clinton for President
Eight years ago, singer Jennifer Lopez helped in Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign by holding a free concert in Miami. She had been vocal about her endorsement of the politician, as well as her special bond with the Clinton family.
In an exclusive interview with Extra TV, the Let’s Get Loud singer revealed she decided to cast her vote on the former US Secretary of State because of her expertise.
Not only is she the most experienced person for this job and she knows this country — she’s lived it on so many different sides already.
Lopez noted that Clinton being a mother and a grandmother – a family person in general – was what impressed her the most. She later shared that she lives in the same building in New York as Clinton’s daughter Chelsea and her family, so she often gets to see the former US First Lady when she visits her grandchildren.
The singer, who is known for being proud and outspoken about her heritage, believed that the Clintons are “a good, decent, working family who knows this office” and she felt the citizens of America would be in amazing hands if she had won the election.
Unfortunately, Clinton was not able to gather all the votes she needed to secure the presidential seat, but Lopez said that when they met after the election, she looked just fine. In her interview on Watch What Happens: Live, the singer shared: “One time, I did right after the election and she was fine. She was visiting her grandkids and we just said hello, passing each other in the building.”
Jennifer Lopez Became Emotional at Kamala Harris’ Campaign
For this year’s election, Lopez is making her own contribution to change as she takes the most important stage in her life. She said at the Las Vegas rally that Americans are on the brink of making a choice. The singer got emotional while delivering her speech, but she made sure to convey what she went there for.
“I believe in the power of women. I believe that women have the power to make the difference in this election,” she said via Hello Magazine, referring to both Kamala Harris and all the female voters. She also mentioned that Latinos have their own power as a community.
A comedian notably made an insensitive joke at a Donald Trump rally calling Puerto Rico “a floating island of garbage in the middle of the ocean.” Lopez’s parents were born in the said country.
