First announced with a lot of hype surrounding it, the Suicide Squad Isekai Anime premiered during the Summer of 2024. Renowned animation studio, Studio Wit, was at the helm for the animation of the series. It garnered a lot of attention from the fans and quickly became a highly anticipated project. However, the same fervor didn’t reflect in the reviews and reception of the series.

Most fans found the final product quite underwhelming as it failed to utilize its full potential. The anime was decent and somewhat entertaining at best. The average ratings it received across multiple platforms averaged around 6. The Suicide Squad Isekai wasn’t the first attempt at a DC show featuring Japanese animation.

In 2018, an animated superhero film titled, ‘Batman Ninja‘ was released. The film was quite peculiar, and that was a huge part of its appeal. Unlike Suicide Squad Anime, Batman Ninja didn’t promise anything groundbreaking. This helped fans in aligning their expectations accordingly, and they ended up enjoying it for what it was. A sequel to the series has been announced and is currently in works. It shows the promise and potential to surpass the performance of its predecessor and the Suicide Squad Anime.

First announced in May 2024, the Batman Ninja sequel is titled ‘Batman Ninja vs. Yakuza League’. A teaser for the film was released recently and fans are excited to see their favorite characters in a new form. These characters include: Batman, Robin, Red Hood, Green Lantern, and Aquaman. Fans are loving the animation in the teaser.

The cast and crew of the film is studded with expert figures from the anime industry. With Junpei Mizusaki and Shinji Takagi in charge for the direction, Kazuki Nakashima is at the helm for the writing. Nakashima has worked on many notable projects including Gurren Lagann and Kill la Kill. Yugo Kanno is handling the musical score of the film. The animation production is being handled by Warner Bros. Japan, DC Studios, Kamikaze Douga, and YamatoWorks.

Batman Ninja vs. Yakuza League has an advantage over its predecessor. The expectations set by Batman Ninja clarify that the upcoming film will be a bit ridiculous, warning fans not to expect anything too serious. Knowing exactly what to expect might make the series more enjoyable. Plus, having popular characters like Aquaman and Flash featured in the film, is bound to excite the DC fandom. All that’s left to see is if the film will deliver on the promise it’s showcasing.

Batman Ninja is available to stream on Amazon Prime.
