‘Agatha All Along’ Scene Joe Locke Considers as “emotional peak for Billy” is Also Show’s Most Gut-wrenching Sequence

Disney+’s Agatha All Along ended on a major cliffhanger, and as intense as the previous episodes have been, it was also an emotional ride for the characters. Joe Locke, who played Billy Maximoff slash William Kaplan, confessed that the scene where he was trying to find a body for his brother, Tommy, was difficult to film.

Fans would recall at the end of WandaVision that the Maximoff brothers were still together when Wanda released Westview and let her family go. Her children, as well as Vision, vanished with the hex that she created around their town.

Joe Locke on Filming Billy Maximoff’s Most Intense Scene in Agatha All Along

The two-part season finale of Agatha All Along was packed with action, magic, and drama rolled into one epic journey. At the end of the first season, viewers were treated to a major revelation: Tommy’s spirit is not yet transferred to another body like Billy.

In the scene where Kathryn Hahn’s Agatha guides Joe Locke’s Billy in search of a body for Tommy’s soul, the actor admits it was quite a tough challenge. Billy was having a hard time locating his brother and all he could see was pitch black, even feeling that he was afraid. Agatha tells him that he was floating, an indication that Billy found a drowning boy and seemingly sent his brother’s soul into the body.

During an interview with The Official Marvel Podcast, Locke recalled how it was an “amazingly hard scene to film.” Indeed it was packed with emotions and the performances of both actors were so intense. He also added:

It’s one of those weird Marvel scenes where the emotions are so high, but also, it’s unrealistic at the same time, and we were trying to make it realistic. And it was almost like the emotional peak for Billy as a character.

The actor said that they played a lot with the gray area of Billy in the show, depicting him as a complex character who kills but doesn’t do it on purpose. The irony was in the fact that he would kill a boy so that his brother can live, and Locke pointed out that his character is not entirely a bad person, but someone who sometimes does bad things especially out of necessity and desperation.

Where is Tommy Maximoff in the Comics?

We still don’t know what happened to Tommy as the season finale revealed Billy and Agatha set out to find him. Hearing Billy’s description of where his brother might be – a bad place – suggests that Marvel may be planning to follow his comic book story.

It was already clear that Billy was worried his brother might not be in an ideal, loving company. In the comics, Tommy is raised in Springfield, New Jersey as the son of Frank and Mary Shepherd. He had a harsh upbringing which led him to become a rebellious teenager. This is a stark contrast to Billy’s sheltered life with his new family.

There’s definitely a hint of a sequel as evident in the season finale, but Marvel is yet to confirm this. Hopefully, we get to meet Tommy in the future installments.
