A TEEN rugby player was taken to hospital following a horror injury on the pitch.
The SCAA air ambulance was scrambled to Strathmore Rugby Club in Forfar at around 2pm this afternoon.
The youngster, who played for Dunfermline under-18s, was injured at around the 75th minute against home club Strathmore Sharks.
Spectators and players watched on as an air ambulance touched down on the turf.
The youth was treated for a neck and spinal injury by medics, reports the Press and Journal.
He was later transported by a road ambulance to hospital.
The under-18 clash, which stopped as the home side lead 50-0, was a warm-up for the Sharks national four league meet against Linlithgow later that day.
Strathmore Rugby Club later confirmed on Facebook that the game was abandoned due to the neck injury.
A spokesperson for Strathmore RFC told the local paper: “The injury happened with about five minutes to play.
“The ambulance arrived very quickly and had to wait on a helicopter with a doctor for a wee while.
“It was all done and dusted within an hour – it was a very slick operation.
“Some of our hospitality raffle money will be forwarded as a show of respect for the way they conducted their business.”
A Dunfermline RFC spokesperson said: “A boy got taken away in an ambulance and as far as we know he is fine.”
