Alabama schools announce early dismissals for Tuesday, April 2 amid severe weather threat

Multiple Alabama school systems on Monday announced early dismissals for Tuesday as portions of the state are under the threat of severe storms.

North and north-central Alabama have a Level 3, or enhanced risk, of severe weather, meaning “scattered to numerous” severe storms on Tuesday, according to forecasters.

The rest of Alabama — now including all of south Alabama — will have a Level 2 risk on Tuesday, which means that scattered severe storms will be possible.

Tornadoes, wind gusts as high as 80 mph, hail and heavy rain will all be possible.

The entire state has at least some risk of seeing strong storms.

Storms could enter the northwest part of the state as early as 2 p.m. Tuesday and drop southeastward through the afternoon, into Tuesday night and possibly into early Wednesday morning in southeast Alabama.

Here are the school systems that have announced closings, delays or early dismissals for Tuesday, April 2:

Florence City Schools: Pre-K-6 11 a.m. early dismissal; grades 7-12 noon dismissal

Lauderdale County Schools: 11:30 a.m. early dismissal

Madison City Schools: Pre-K 11 a.m. early dismissal; elementary schools 11:30 a.m. early dismissal; high schools 12:15 p.m. early dismissal
