‘All the drinking he did’

Daniel Craig has been in a relationship with actress Rachel Weisz since 2010 and they have been married since 2011. He had known Weisz since working together on Les Grandes Horizontales in 1994. The role of James Bond put Daniel Craig in a reputable position in the film industry, but it did not do much good for his marriage with actress Rachel Weisz. Craig’s stint as 007 required him to maintain good shape and perform intense stunts, which not only took a physical toll on him but also put a strain on his marriage.

A source close to the couple shared with Closer Weekly that the demanding nature of the role and the level of commitment of the actor made him difficult to live with. The source further added along with his grueling training schedule, he was also drinking too much which also affected his marriage. The source told Closer Weekly:

That role was so demanding, not just the shoot schedules… the level of commitment it took year round to stay in shape, all the training sessions and the diets, [had] made him very hard to live with. He really threw himself into it to such an intense degree. And then there was all the drinking he did, that wasn’t exactly conducive to a happy marriage.

According to the source, the Knives Out actor has been able to fix his marriage after his retirement from the role after No Time to Die. The source shared that things have calmed down between Craig and Weisz. The source added that Craig could finally be present in their marriage a whole lot more. They shared:

Everyone knows they’ve had his issues, but things have calmed down enormously. Not having the responsibility of playing James Bond has done wonders for their relationship because Daniel can finally be a whole lot more present.

The source also told the outlet that Craig admitted to not being an attentive husband. With more time on his hands, the Kings actor reportedly “centered his world around Rachel.”

Daniel Craig immersed himself in projects like Knives Out sequels Glass Onion and Wake Up Dead Man, which had more flexible schedules. He also took on the role of William Lee in Luca Guadagnino‘s historical romance drama Queer. Craig and Weisz were spotted during the premiere of the film at the Venice Film Festival.

Interestingly, the verdict from the festival indicates that Craig might be contesting for the Best Actor award at the Oscars next year. The source shared that it would be a special moment for the couple as Craig is thrilled to share that success with Weisz. The source told Closer Weekly:

She’s been there through thick and thin for him, and they couldn’t be happier. The icing on the cakes is that it’s looking like this movie could win an Oscar for him. He’s thrilled to be having this success and to be in a better place with Rachel, everyone’s noticed just how much happier he is now.

The gay romance film has found a suitable distributing partner in A24. Queer is scheduled to be released in the US on November 27, 2024.
