Costner’s ambitious project didn’t just fail to hit the mark—it pretty much nose-dived straight into disaster territory. And now, it seems like one of his A-list peers is having a hard time trusting him with anything big again.

Kevin Costner’s massive gamble with Horizon: An American Saga seems to be shaking up more than just the box office – it’s got Luke Wilson seriously spooked. According to insiders, the Legally Blonde star, who was all in on Costner’s epic Western, isn’t handling the movie’s flop too well.

Adding that Luke was totally on board, believing this would be the surprise hit of the summer. Fast forward a few months, and that optimism’s turned into panic after Horizon bombed with critics at Cannes. He revealed (via Life&Style Magazine):

He’s just been seriously spooked by how badly the movie did, especially with the critics. It just doesn’t make sense to him, and he’s freaked out by it.

The Legally Blonde star had called Horizon a one-of-a-kind project, but as critics weighed in, Wilson reportedly looked like he’d seen a ghost. Even though he believed in Costner’s direction, the negative feedback’s left him, and possibly other cast members, shaken. The source shared:

You have to wonder if they’re not all going through what Luke is experiencing right now. The guy has been totally rattled by the hate thrown in the direction of this movie.

Costner, a Hollywood legend with Oscars, Golden Globes, and an Emmy to his name, ain’t new to setbacks. Despite the stinging reviews, he remains hopeful. “He’s a man of faith and hope,” says the source, noting that some of Costner’s biggest hits, like The Bodyguard, were initially underestimated.

But with Horizon failing to hit the mark, one can only wonder how it will impact Costner’s future projects.

Kevin Costner’s keeping it real about Horizon: An American Saga. While at the Venice Film Festival on Sept. 7, the Yellowstone legend didn’t sugarcoat it, admitting Chapter 1 didn’t have overwhelming success. But Costner’s been here before. He asserted, staying chill as ever (via Variety),

It didn’t have overwhelming success. I’ve had a lot of movies that way, that have stood the test of time.

The original plan was to drop Chapter 2 in Aug., but after the first film didn’t shatter records, the studio hit pause. Turns out, that delay worked out perfectly for Costner, giving him a shot at premiering the film at Venice—his dream gig.

Costner gave a big shoutout to Venice’s artistic director Alberto Barbera for “bringing this here,” adding with a grin, “F—, Venice keeps coming to my rescue!Chapter 2 may not have a release date yet, but Costner’s playing the long game.
