Andrew Garfield has been in several incredible movies and when it comes to expressing emotions, no one does it better than him. A seamless master of emoation who can effortlessly blend into any genre and role, the actor is best known for his tearful and emotional portrayals.
Garfield made us all cry at the end of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 when Emma Stone’s Gwen Stacy falls to a brutal death. The poignant scene left audiences in tears but when it comes to Garfield, the actor isn’t immune to the charm of Paddington and cries while watching them.
Movies that Make Andrew Garfield Weep Like a Baby
Hollywood boasts a long list of incredibly talented actors who are master at seamlessly switching emotions in less than a nano-second, and Andrew Garfield is certainly among them. Proven to be able to carry the weight of any genre, the actor has been nominated twice for the Best Actor Oscar award for his poignant portrayals in Hacksaw Ridge and Tick, Tick… Boom!
However, when we look back to his best-ever emotional portrayal, nothing can beat the end scene of The Amazing Spider-Man 2, where his on-screen love interest, played by Emma Stone (and also his then-girlfriend in real life), falls to her death despite his character’s attempt to save her. Filled with exquisite detail, it is one of the most emotional scenes of all time in a superhero movie.
While we all cried during the film, the actor himself is a frequent crier during movies. In an interview with Off Set once, the actor remarked that it is good to cry and that men should cry more. When it comes to the film that makes him cry, he names Frank Capra’s It’s a Wonderful Life, Tom Hanks-starrer Sleepless in Seattle, and the Paddington movies as his favorite tearjerkers (via People).
Andrew Garfield Cries While Watching the Paddington Movies
The Paddington movies are based on the beloved children’s books by Michael Bond and although catering to children primarily, the tale has charmed audiences of all ages. Filled with heartwarming stories of a lovable bear from Peru, every film has a message of kindness, acceptance, and the importance of family conveyed with gentle humor.
Voiced by Ben Whishaw, Paddington is also a deeply resonating character even though he is ‘just a bear’. So, it is no wonder that a seasoned actor and a wonderful human being like Andrew Garfield would not love the films. He, in fact, doesn’t just love the movies but also cries watching them, as he revealed to People once.
In another interview with Josh Horowitz, when asked which movie he had been watching the most, Garfield revealed,
… the movie I’ve been watching this year… it was Paddington 2… It is an actual masterpiece of storytelling, of satire, of hijinks, of physical comedy… Just exquisite, artful framing and filmmaking.
Full of praise for the Paul King-directed films, he isn’t wrong, for the Paddington movies certainly know how to strike the right chords and when to tug the heartstrings. While we appreciate the actor for being so vocal about emotions and ‘crying’, his surprising revelation also makes us think that Andrew Garfield and Paul King would do wonders in a film together.
