Angels to promote pitching prospect Sam Bachman – Orange County Register

The Angels will promote right-hander Sam Bachman from Double-A to pitch out of the bullpen, bringing up their top pick from the 2021 draft, a source confirmed Thursday.

The Angels will need to remove someone else from the active roster and also clear a spot on the 40-man roster before Friday’s game.

Bachman, 23, has a 5.81 ERA in 26 1/3 innings at Double-A, although results in that league have been skewed because of the use of an experimental pre-tacked baseball. He struck out 29 and walked 20 this season. He has been starting.

Bachman throws a fastball in the upper 90s, giving the Angels an element that their bullpen lacks, outside of closer Carlos Estévez. Right-hander Chase Silseth, who was also drafted in 2021, throws 96-97 mph. He was recently moved back to the Angels bullpen.

The Angels have been aggressive in moving prospects to the majors under general manager Perry Minasian.

Last May, Silseth was the first player from the 2021 draft to reach the big leagues. Shortstop Zach Neto became the first player from the 2022 draft to get to the big leagues when the Angels promoted him last month.

Bachman, Silseth and Neto all came to the big leagues without playing at Triple-A, as did catcher Logan O’Hoppe in September.
