It’s a treat for all the Alan Wake fans out there because the universe of the franchise is about to get bigger. Alan Wake 2 is undeniably one of the best horror games of all time, winning major accolades and awards in 2023. The story of the game follows the best-selling novelist who has been trapped in an alternate dimension for 13 years. Now, will it be possible to portray Wake’s journey in a single and continuous movie?

The Story of Alan Wake

The story of the franchise is based on a psychological thriller combined with action-adventure survival. In this game, one of the best-selling crime-thriller novelists, Wake, goes on a vacation with his wife, Alice, to Bright Falls.

The main story starts from here, where Wake lost his wife as she disappeared out of nowhere. Now finding Alice will rely on finding manuscripts of a thriller novel called Departure. The whole gameplay is based on majorly dark environments, especially in the woods, near the cabins, and of course near the lake where she was taken.

Wake will embark upon his journey of finding his wife with just a flashlight and a gun, fighting dark figures. Now these dark figures are called Taken, who are basically people, animals, and objects engulfed by darkness. These takes get their strength from the darkness but get weakened in light.

Alan Wake’s Adaptation Should Be a TV Series, Not a Movie

Alan Wake is one of the best picks from Remedy to gear up for an on-screen adaptation. The highly intricate story-driven gameplay has already made a special place in everyone’s hearts. But Remedy should go for the television route rather than a silver screen appearance.

There are some certain reasons for that. First of all, it has six chapters in the base game along with two additional ones with the DLC. Now, this chapter-based story is ideal for bringing the depiction to a TV series, which is basically episode-based. Also, the pace of the game is really suitable for an adaptation into a TV series with multiple plot twists and climaxes.

Now, a movie would never do justice to this franchise because the movie has to contain the whole extensive essence of the series in just a 2-3 hour-long continuation with an immediate conclusion. Whereas, a TV series on this franchise would give breathing space to the viewers and also provide ample amount to the character to develop in such an extravagant plot. Another subject of debate is who plays the main character in the upcoming adaptation.

Also, the game itself is around 15 hours long, so making a cinema out of it would be impossible because you are surely going to miss out on a lot of aspects.
