New York Knicks player Ogugua “OG” Anunoby Jr. nearly crashed into Anne Hathaway and her son during Wednesday night’s game against the Chicago Bulls.
The “Princess Diaries” star, 42, and her youngest son, Jack, were seated courtside at Madison Square Garden in New York City when the small forward, 27, tried to make a steal.
After jumping up to intercept the ball, Anunoby ran into a barrier on the sideline, where the two were seated.
The athlete nearly ended up right on top of the mother-son duo, spilling Jack’s popcorn all over the floor in the process.
The child, who turns 5 this month, looked stunned by the mishap as he stared up at Anunoby in shock. Meanwhile, his famous mom laughed off the situation as employees came over to make sure everyone was OK.
“Anunoby’s scaring those along the sidelines,” one of the game’s announcers joked on the broadcast, as the other added, “The lil’ kid was mesmerized. He couldn’t move.”
Thankfully, no one was hurt; however, Jack seemed a bit disappointed about the lost popcorn.
During the time out, the camera panned back to the duo as Hathaway rubbed her youngest kid’s arm to calm him down from the ordeal.
“He’s not happy about the popcorn being spilled, that’s for sure,” the announcer said with a laugh, adding, “There’s always more popcorn, young man.”
In addition to Jack, the “Devil Wears Prada” star shares 8-year-old son Jonathan with her husband, Adam Shulman. The couple met in 2008 and wed four years later.
Despite her public-facing job, Hathaway has kept her children out of the spotlight, only having shared one photo of her eldest son online — which she immediately regretted.
“I had never posted a photo of my son, and I decided to post a shot of the back of his head, and almost as soon as I’d done it, I wished that I hadn’t,” she told Jezebel in 2017.
“I felt like I had broken some kind of a seal in inviting people into my life,” she continued. “And even though I felt as though I had done it in as protective a way as I could, even though it was a moment I was incredibly proud of, I don’t know that I’ll ever do it again.”
In addition to keeping her kids offline, the two boys have never joined their mom on a red carpet or at any of her work events — and they likely never will.
“It’s something I feel is not just essential for my health — I’m on a team, it’s my family, and it’s not just about me,” the “Les Misérables” star told Porter magazine in November 2023.
“My family has needs, and one of the needs of children is that they need to be able to define their own lives,” she continued. “It doesn’t even occur to me to link the two up, except through gratitude that they serve each other so beautifully. But they serve each other through me, and not through a space that’s outside of myself.”
