AUSTINTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Thanksgiving means a lot of things but for many, it’s time for the annual Macy’s parade in New York.
For sixth graders at Austintown Middle School, it means creating your own parade, with miniature floats the kids made themselves.
This is all part of a language arts class project where students studied the origins of the legendary parade. The kids, with some help from their families, built their own floats for display.
“The kids have roughly a month to get their ideas together, and they are able to create either a float or a parade balloon from a previous parade or they create something completely new on their own interest,” said Jessica Tomic, a sixth-grade teacher.
Teachers say they’ve been reaching the parade course for six years. School staff voted for their favorites, and eventually, one of these will be chosen as the best in the class.
