BEACHWOOD, Ohio — The city’s school district has begun the schematic design phase for the $65-million master plan to construct two brand new elementary schools and update the Fairmount Early Childhood Center.
As such, Beachwood Schools are inviting residents
to lend their ideas in helping to design the new elementary facilities, which include new schools at the current Bryden and Hilltop school sites.
The Beachwood Board of Education will welcome residents to share their vision on how the facilities and grounds can best serve the entire community at two public input sessions.
The sessions are scheduled for 5-6:30 p.m. Oct. 9, and 7-8:30 p.m. Dec. 5. Both sessions will be held at the Beachwood Board of Education office, 24601 Fairmount Blvd.
Architects from ThenDesign Architecture will present site plans and share a timeline of key milestones in the design and construction process. Community members will have opportunities to provide feedback on the site plans, ask questions, and talk with the design team.
Input gathered from these sessions, along with ongoing collaborations with staff and city officials, will serve as the foundation for the schematic designs.
The new facilities and grounds are expected to enable enhanced educational opportunities for students, as well as flexible community spaces for the public to gather, socialize, learn, and play.
“Beachwood Schools believes every voice matters,” said Assistant Superintendent Ken Veon, in a release. “Together, we can create an educational environment that reflects the needs and expectations of the community.
“This collaborative design process will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of education in the district and provide facilities, grounds, and amenities that will be assets for the greater Beachwood community.”
In 2022, the Beachwood Board of Education engaged residents, staff, students, and city officials in a collaborative planning process that led to a master plan to update the Fairmount Early Childhood Center, 24601 Fairmount Blvd.
It also laid the groundwork for plans to construct a new 62,500-square-foot Bryden Elementary School for students in kindergarten through second grade at 25501 Bryden Road, and a new 66,300-square-foot Hilltop Elementary School building at 24524 Hilltop Drive for students in grades three to five.
The new facilities will be constructed next to the current Bryden and Hilltop elementary schools. The project is funded through a $65-million bond issue Beachwood voters approved in May, 2023.
