Jon Hamm became famous worldwide when he starred in the iconic series Mad Men. Portraying an iconic role, his fame skyrocketed after starring in Mad Men as he went on to pursue other projects in his career.
However, the actor had his fair share of ups and downs during his career. Landing the role that would make him famous at 36 years of age, Jon Hamm worked in soft p*rn films to make ends meet for a while!
Jon Hamm Was A Set Dresser In Soft P*rn Films
The first question you would ask is why would p*rn films need a set dresser? Well, the question was answered by Jon Hamm quite gracefully in his iconic manner.
Finding fame later on in his career, Hamm did a plethora of odd jobs and table scrapping to get by. However, one of the most bizarre jobs that the actor had to do was to be a set dresser in p*rn films.
In an interview with The Guardian, the actor talked about how being a set dresser was quite a serious job in p*rn films.
You gotta move cameras around, and ashtrays; and continuity is apparently an issue.
However, things turned around when after working a 12-hour shift on a p*rn film, Jon Hamm received a notification from Jennifer Westfeldt. She was a distant acquaintance of the actor and invited him to play on a show she was working on.
That is how he found himself living in New York on a friend’s couch and ended up working on a show titled Lipschtick. The show ended up putting his name on the map and Jon Hamm found himself on the road to other projects.
Jennifer Westfeldt Ended Up Saving Jon Hamm
The two ended up dating while they were making the show in New York and Hamm agrees that it was Jennifer Westfeldt who saved his career. Westfeldt also found international fame with her 2001 film Kissing Jessica Stein.
As the interview further continued, Hamm talked about how he is still not habituated to not worrying about bills. The actor was relieved that albeit late, it all worked out in the end for him.
It’s nice not to have to worry about how you’re going to pay your bills. And it’s a problem I’ve had for far longer than I haven’t had it.
He further continued,
Not worrying about the bills is still very new for me.
After his role in Mad Men, Jon Hamm went on to star in iconic projects like Baby Driver, Top Gun: Maverick, and, The Morning Show. Suffice it to say that his set-dresser days paid off in the end.
Mad Men received a rating of 8.7/10 on IMDB and a whopping 94% on Rotten Tomatoes.
With 7 seasons to its name, the iconic show is available to stream on AMC+ in the U.S.
