Berlin man found guilty in 2020 sexual assault on Quinnipiac University campus

A New Haven Superior Court jury found a Berlin man guilty of a 2020 sexual assault on the campus of Quinnipiac University, officials said.

Daniel Cervoni, 23, was found guilty on Friday in New Haven of second-degree sexual assault, according to the Connecticut Division of Criminal Justice.

According to evidence presented at trial, Cervoni sexually assaulted a woman in a dormitory on the campus of Quinnipiac University while she was physically helpless, the jury found. Evidence established that Cervoni, the victim, and three other friends were visiting a mutual friend in the dormitory after a night out in New Haven. During the night, Cervoni was observed by witnesses engaging in sexual intercourse with the physically helpless victim. At the time of the assault, both Cervoni and the victim were not students of the university, officials said.

Cervoni faces a mandatory minimum prison sentence of nine months and a maximum of 10 years, according to officials.

Sentencing is scheduled for Feb. 13, 2025 at New Haven Superior Court.
