In today’s age, where anime and manga have been a major source of entertainment; there are some titles that repeat the same old plot with a remodeled protagonist. However, Kentaro Miura’s Berserk is an exception to this notion; the title has the unfazed attention of the fans from readers and watchers alike, a phenomenon that is hard to find.
The series has remained on top of the psychological gore for years, leaving behind a legacy that forever cements its legacy in the manga industry. The title has been the go-to series for dark fantasy lovers.
Though the fame of the series has been unmatched, with an unrivaled success, fans remain disappointed. Recently, the viral fan anime series has been axed with Studio Taka, the animation studio behind the unofficial series, posting an official announcement following the cancellation.
Berserk’s Unofficial Show Gets Cancelled After Dishonoring The Rights
In Japan, Kentaro Miura’s Berserk stands tall at the forefront of the dark manga genre and will leave its viewers in a state of shock. Guts, the protagonist of the show, had witnessed some of the worst things that a kid can experience first-hand.
The anime series has been a massive hit among fans, but after 2017, the title never received an adaptation, and the death of the creator has only made things difficult for the anime. However, a fan-made series titled Berserk: The Black Swordsman got the entire fandom excited until the unofficial project from Studio ECLYPSE got canceled.
The news was officially confirmed by Studio Taka via a user (@ChibiReviews) on X. The statement read, the rightful holders of the title took a public stance following the unofficial fan project. The statement further read that they took “thoughtful consideration and exploring all possible options,” which makes the decision all the more “difficult.”

The artist of the unofficial series was very passionate about the project, but overseeing the “potential legal risks” and disrespecting the “intellectual property rights” of the studio is not the right way. They emphasized how the project was so well received and the positive feedback felt so rewarding.
Hence, they vehemently dedicated themselves to investing in the unofficial series. However, they decided to step away from the project because “we believe it’s the right thing to do in order to honour the rights holders and their wishes.”
The statement concluded, expressing their gratitude to the loyal fans and the ardent support they had received over the years. The fans were heartbroken because all the fans of the series had been asking over the years for just more anime of their favorite manga, but all they received was an Attack on Titan film.
Berserk Fans Are Disappointed With The Cancellation of The Fan Favorite Project
The Berserk community is fuming over the news of the show’s cancellation because the last show was made back in 2016, which concluded in 2017. Since then, no anime adaptation projects have taken place, which made this unofficial project such a huge hit.
But the officials had to ruin the happiness of the fans, as they compelled the artist to pull the plug on the upcoming series. Hence, the news got a negative reaction from the fans on social media. They commented,
If the right holders had an issue with a fan produced project for FREE — why the hell haven’t they produced an actual, respectful berserk anime the fans deserve!?

Sad to see, but it is what it is. I just hope one day we get a proper Berserk animation.

So what are they going to go after fan art now too? This is crazy

So fxck the fans now? Strange strategy.

This is horseshit. Fan films have always been a thing
— Gundalf (@gundalfthegray) September 17, 2024
What else did they expect? This was obviously bound to happen since they do not have the rights for Berserk

Nevertheless, the fan project seemed immensely exciting as a project that met the industry standard, and their desire was everything the community wanted, and the project delivered just that.
Now, with the current show getting canceled, it remains unclear if any anime adaptation would even take place, be it official or unofficial.
Berserk Manga is available to read on the Dark Horse Comics Digital website.
