Blake Lively made a triumphant return to the silver screen with the adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s It Ends With Us, in which she took on the lead role of Lily Bloom alongside Justin Baldoni.
Baldoni not only portrayed Ryle Kincaid in the adaptation but also directed the movie, after his production company, Wayfarer Entertainment, acquired the rights to adapt the book and its sequel, It Starts with Us, in 2019.
However, recent reports are suggesting that the Hollywood star and Lively’s husband, Ryan Reynolds, is willing to pay millions to buy out Baldoni’s involvement in the potential sequel. As per Life & Style,
Ryan is willing to offer millions to Blake’s director and costar, Justin Baldoni, in an attempt to buy out his stake in the franchise so Blake can continue her role without having to work with Baldoni, with whom she clashed.
The Deadpool star reportedly wants to ensure that Lively stays in the potential sequel, as the source further told the outlet, “This is the biggest film Blake has ever made. Ryan wants to make sure she isn’t replaced in the sequel.”
With the film’s box office success, making it the highest-grossing film of her career, Reynolds wants to ensure that Lively is not replaced in the sequel by buying out Baldoni’s stakes in the adaptations.
Blake Lively And Justin Baldoni Feud May Affect It Ends With Us Sequel
While there have been discussions surrounding a sequel to It Ends With Us, with Justin Baldoni even expressing that he would like Blake Lively to helm the production, there has been no official confirmation about it yet.
Baldoni has expressed his thoughts about who could potentially take on the directorial duties for the sequel, based on the book, It Starts With Us. “I think there are better people for that one,” he told Entertainment Weekly.
He further stated, “I think Blake Lively’s ready to direct. That’s what I think.” However, the apparent feud between Lively and Baldoni has left the future for a potential sequel uncertain.
The co-stars reportedly had a falling out during the film’s post-production. As per Variety, the situation is unprecedented, with no clear path for Lively and Baldoni’s joint involvement in the sequel.
This is uncharted territory, and nobody has any idea of what a sequel could look like — There’s probably no world where these two will work together again.
While neither of them has addressed the rumored feud, it is believed that the tensions are high and the relationship is beyond salvageable. Despite that, the situation is complicated by the cinematic rights to both books, which are under Baldoni’s Wayfarer Entertainment.
