Blue Jays’ Loperfido leaves vs. Cardinals with left adductor muscle discomfort

After doubling in his first trip to the plate Saturday, Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Joey Loperfido returned to play one inning of defence but exited the game against the St. Louis Cardinals in the fifth.

The Blue Jays later announced that Loperfido left with left adductor muscle tightness. Adductors are a group of muscles in the hip and thigh.

Loperfido only made it to the plate for the one at-bat before leaving. He was placed in the lineup by Luis De Los Santos, who entered to play third base, pushing Addison Barger to left.

The 25-year-old Loperfido was acquired from the Houston Astros at the trade deadline as part of the Yusei Kikuchi trade.

Entering the weekend, he was slashing .216/.250/.378 with two home runs and eight RBIs over 33 games with the Blue Jays.
