Blue Jays’ Schneider suggests new MLB rule: ‘If Kirky hits a triple you should win’

Toronto Blue Jays manager John Schneider has a suggestion for a new MLB rule.

“I feel like if Kirky hits a triple you should win the game automatically,” Schneider joked on Saturday. “That should be a new rule for MLB to listen to.”

Unfortunately for the Blue Jays, it’s not, and they lost 3-2 to the Tampa Bay Rays despite their catcher recording the first triple of his career.

Kirk’s milestone hit drove in Spencer Horowitz, bringing the Blue Jays within one run of the Rays in the top of the seventh. However, they were ultimately unable to record another before the game’s end.

“Didn’t have Spence scoring from first on a Kirky triple on my bingo card, but, you know, nice that we got the ball for him and the stars were aligned,” Schneider said with a smile.

The 25-year-old Kirk recorded the triple in his 428th major league game.

Toronto will look to spoil Tampa’s shot at a three-game sweep on Sunday. Catch the game on Sportsnet and Sportsnet+ starting at 1:40 p.m. ET / 10:40 a.m. PT.
