Show bosses told her management they thought she would be a “brilliant” contestant on the BBC series which returns to TV screens on Saturday.

However, despite her talent as a musician, Amy said she has “no rhythm” and can’t dance so declined to take part.

The 37-year-old, from Bishopbriggs, near Glasgow, said: “A few months ago my manager got an email saying ‘We think Amy would be brilliant on Strictly Come Dancing. Does she want to do it?’

“I would be that person that is kept in until the end because I was so f**king s**t.

“I said no. I had to say no. I hope that you’re not all so disappointed.”

However, Dr Punam Krishan will make sure there’s a Scottish star on the show.

Amy said she found the offer hilarious due to her lack of dancing skills and also told how former footballer husband Richard Foster, known as ‘Foz’, urged her not to do it.

She added: “Everybody else probably doesn’t find it funny because they would say ‘Oh well, she’s on stage, she’s got good rhythm, she can keep a beat.’ Nope.

“When I got the email and I read it out to Foz, he just looked at me and went ‘No.’“

Mr Rock and Roll singer Amy burst onto the music scene in 2007 and has released five studio albums.

She has sold more than 12 million records and she has become a massive star in European countries like Germany and Denmark as well as the UK.

Last year, the singer topped the charts in Saudi Arabia thanks to famous footballers like Cristiano Ronaldo moving there to play.

Her hit song This Is The Life has been used on a string of TikTok clips featuring the Portuguese superstar in action.

It led to the track, which was first released in 2007, reaching number one on the Spotify charts in the Middle Eastern country.

The 20th series of Strictly Come Dancing features celebrities including the comedian Chris McCausland, pop star Toyah Willcox, Olympic swimmer Tom Dean, former footballer Paul Merson and TV presenter Nick Knowles.

There had been doubts about whether the show would return this year after it faced a number of complaints about mistreatment, which led to the departures of professional dancers Giovanni Pernice and Graziano Di Prima.
