The Japanese company’s pricing for the console reflects their plans to adjust to maintain profit margins and “lack of direct competitor to its mid-cycle upgrade compared to last generation.”
If you’ve forgotten, during the last generation, Microsoft decided to take on Sony’s popular PS4 with various Xbox One versions, including a beefier Xbox One X. The console launched to great success as it was being sold as the world’s most powerful console, completely outclassing PS4 Pro’s performance.
However, this time around, Xbox Series S/X consoles have fallen hard, as PS5 has outsold both consoles across multiple regions. Microsoft is not planning to bring a mid-gen upgrade, which gives Sony an upper hand.
Ampere predicts that despite this absurd price tag, PlayStation 5 Pro will end up selling 1.3 million units this year. Even though it’s quite a step down from the 1.7 million PS4 Pro units sold, the new pro console will profit the company more due to the higher price point.
Gamers believe Sony is completely out of touch with reality, and the only way to counter this is by moving to the PC gaming space. Seriously, for the same price, you can build quite a decent setup that can allow you to experience most of the modern-generation games in their full glory.
