Captain Marvel Actor’s Honest Confession Reveals the Real Issue With MCU That Will Upset Kevin Feige

While the MCU had a resurgence with Deadpool & Wolverine this year, the franchise has seen a dip in quality ever since Avengers: Endgame. The MCU changed the industry forever when it popularized the concept of a shared universe much like the comics, with Endgame becoming the highest-grossing film ever for a period of time.

However, the interconnected nature of the films seemed to have worked against it as some actors have expressed their disdain for the process. While Christian Bale, who starred in Thor: Love and Thunder called the process monotonous, Captain Marvel star Jude Law said that he was unsatisfied with the process as he could not develop his character as much.

Jude Law has been a part of multiple franchises before. He played Dr. John Watson in Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes, where he shared the screen with MCU star Robert Downey Jr. He also played a younger Albus Dumbledore in the Fantastic Beasts flicks. However, the actor was reportedly not happy after working on Captain Marvel.

The actor played Yon-Rogg in the Brie Larson starrer, which preceded Avengers: Endgame. Law’s role was a mentor-like character for Larson’s Carol Danvers and was a commander on Starforce. While Law did not criticize Captain Marvel, he mentioned that he wished he did not have a one-picture deal with the franchise so he could do more.

Jude Law mentioned that the franchise itself could not do much with the character and that curbed his freedom to play with it. He said to Variety,

I don’t think there was much more they could get out of Yon-Rogg. That, for me, was the height of Marvel. It was a really good experience. I wish I’d been allowed to have a bit more fun with the part. I wanted him to be more arch. I wanted to lean into the humor more.

With Marvel already delivering Thanos in Infinity War, it seemed like the franchise gave Yon-Rogg the classic MCU villain treatment and failed to use a phenomenal actor like Jude Law.

Jude Law Had Some Issues With His Suit While On Captain Marvel

While most actors hope to be cast as superheroes in a huge franchise like Marvel or DC, everyone who has been given the opportunity has complained about their suits. Supersuits are usually designed for aesthetics and agility based on the hero’s skills. However, they are not always comfortable to move around and some even take hours to get into.

Jude Law reportedly had a tough time being agile in his own suit while on Captain Marvel. The actor mentioned that though he enjoyed the action workshops he attended before filming, the suit initially became an obstacle for him to perform well. He told Variety,

Also, those suits are hard to move in because they’re thick rubber. You go to stunt camp for a couple of months, where you’re doing all these fight rehearsals and learning to do all this stuff. And then you put the suit on, and you go, ‘Oh! I can’t touch my toes! How am I going to do all that stuff with this thing on?’ You figure it out though.

While the MCU experience was not that satisfying for Law, the actor mentioned that he had a really nice time on the sets of his upcoming Star Wars show The Skeleton Crew.

Captain Marvel is available to stream on Disney+.
