Casey White, Vicky White documentary premiering on Netflix this month

A new documentary recounting the strange romance of Alabama jailer Vicky White and accused murderer Casey White is coming to Netflix.

“Jailbreak: Love on the Run” premieres on Netflix on Sept. 25. It has a running time of roughly 90 minutes.

The film is the latest attempt to untangle the bizarre jailhouse romance that led to Casey White’s escape from jail and Vicky White’s eventual death.

According to Netflix, the film shows how Vicky White played a role in thwarting other officers romances with inmates.

“She was really good at it,” says administrative assistant Chantelle Brown in the doc. “I would go out on a limb to say that she took pride in it. It made her feel some sense of satisfaction to be able to uncover the truth.”

Other witnesses tell the cameras about the two trading letters with no return addresses. Vicky, who had been divorced, was 55 at the time, white Casey was 38.

Casey White pleaded guilty in June 2023 to escape charges related to the 11 days in 2022 that he was on the run with former Lauderdale County jailer Vicky White. He was sentenced to life in prison. White entered his plea in exchange for the felony murder charge involving Vicky White being dropped.

Vicky White, who was not related to Casey, took her own life with a gunshot to the head as Evansville, Ind. police were closing in on them following an 11-day manhunt. Casey White, who reportedly was also injured by Vicky’s fatal shot, faced murder charges because Vicky White’s death occurred during the commission of a felony.

Last year, prosecutors dropped capital murder charges against Casey White in the 2015 murder-for-hire of Connie Ridgeway, which White had confessed to in 2020. He was in Lauderdale County Jail awaiting trial on those charges when the escape took place.

Because of his life sentence, they saw no need to go ahead with the capital case.
