It came with a never-ending carton of baby formula, a baby bottle, a jar of cherries and a plastic spoon.

And it didn’t matter how often you used it, the scent of cherries remained as strong as ever.

Many of the nostalgic dolls, complete with cherry pot, can still be snapped up on eBay today – but only if you have £120 to spare.

So parents have been left delighted after spotting a £4.99 toy in Smyths that reminds them of their childhood plaything.

The Magic Food Tray features a plate of food, plus a fork and spoon that can pick up the items to feed your doll.

Posting on Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK, a private Facebook group with 2.5 million members, mum Rebecca said: “Run don’t walk. My childhood has just been brought back to life. £4.99 in smyths.

“I had to buy two just in case of breakages. The price is too good to argue!

“I was literally looking for one of these a few weeks ago and you could only get replacements from the 90s. They were all 30 quid plus just for the spoon and cherry pot.”

Rebecca’s post has since racked up more than 700 comments as other excited parents race to snap up the toy.

“This is actually very exciting and I want one”, one gushed.

A second wrote: “Ohhhh I’ve been looking for these as welll could only find those expensive ones that are like £13 for one small pot!”

A third reminisced: “I can still smell the pot of cherries from baby all gone!”

A fourth chimed in: “I’m going to get it and live through my child.”

A fifth added: “Just bought one for my daughter to feed her babies.

“She will love this. First Xmas pressie done!”

Meanwhile, a sixth joked: “I want one aged 33.”
