A convicted felon faces charges for allegedly hiding a stolen gun in a bar in Milford after a fight broke out.
Police responded to the Hair of the Dog at 128 Bridgeport Ave. on Nov. 1 at 10:30 p.m. on the report of a fight in the parking lot involving multiple individuals, according to the Milford Police Department. No injuries were reported.
Police said witnesses at the scene told responding officers that one of the individuals involved had a handgun. Officers set up a perimeter and found a man inside the bar who matched the description of the armed suspect.
According to police, the man was identified as 39-year-old Matthew Prosnick of Bridgeport. Police said they believe he went into the kitchen at the bar after the altercation and hid a Ruger handgun, which was found to have been stolen from Bridgeport. Officers seized the gun as well as ammunition.
Police also discovered that Prosnick was a convicted felon. He was arrested and charged with two counts of criminal possession of a firearm or ammunition and a single count each of stealing a firearm and second-degree breach of peace, according to police.
Prosnick was held on a $100,000 bond and was arraigned in Milford Superior Court on Nov. 4, police said. He has since posted bail and is due back in court on Dec. 3, according to court records.
