But no action was taken. Exactly a week later the pet, thought to be a cross Staffie and Pitbull, went on the rampage and turned on its owner and someone who came to the rescue.

Both suffered injuries that have been described as “serious but not life threatening”.

A resident said: “During the first incident someone was very worried about how aggressive the dog was.

“The police attended but the owner didn’t ask for any assistance and no one required medical treatment.”

It’s understood members of the public intervened and the owner thanked those who came to help her.

One local said: “She said she believed the dog would have killed her if she’d not been rescued.

“It is unreal that the same thing has happened again just a week later.”

On Saturday the dog snapped and turned on the owner, aged 40, for a second time.

She was heard screaming in her garden next to the corner shop in the tiny village.

A local lad, aged 20, leaped over the stone wall and came to her rescue but was attacked and is thought to have suffered severe injuries to his arms.

He was pulled out of the garden and taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary for treatment.

It’s thought the woman could have been injured for as long as two hours as emergency crews struggled to get to her because of the rampaging dog.

She was eventually stretchered away and is now being treated in hospital.

Armed cops were called to the scene and the dog was eventually humanely destroyed.

One local said: “Well done to the people who tried to help and contain the situation.

“If these people hadn’t got involved who knows what could have happened. They are very brave.

“If the dog had got out I hate to think how many more casualties there could have been.”

A friend said the owner is recovering and healing in hospital. While the lad is also recovering.

Both incidents have now been referred to Police Scotland’s Professional Standards department.
