All eyes will be on the quarterback position when the Edmonton Elks and Ottawa Redblacks return to practice this week.
In a season featuring many quarterback changes across the CFL, there could be two more this week.
In Edmonton, Canadian Tre Ford struggled in his return to the starter’s role following injury on Saturday and was replaced by McLeod Bethel-Thompson in the fourth quarter of a 27-14 loss to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
After the game, Elks interim coach Jarious Jackson wouldn’t name a starter for Friday’s rematch in Winnipeg.
“Not right now. I don’t want to make a knee-jerk reaction or a knee-jerk decision,” Jackson said, per 3DownNation. “We’ll wait until tomorrow. Tonight I’ll watch the film and I’ll figure it out sometime this week.”
Ford was 10-of-17 for 131 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. He also lost one fumble.
The Elks (5-9) are three points back of the Saskatchewan Roughriders for the third and final spot in the West playoffs.
“I talked to Tre at half and we started very slow offensively in the first half,” Jackson said. “We had four turnovers in the first half. He was fortunate that I even stayed with him long enough as far as to even give him the opportunity in the second half.”

Meanwhile, Redblacks quarterback Dru Brown threw two interceptions before he exited with an ankle injury in the second quarter of a 24-12 loss to the Montreal Alouettes on Saturday.
His replacement Jeremiah Masoli was 17-of-26 for 218 yards and one touchdown.
The Redblacks (8-5-1) have lost two in a row. They are six points behind the Als for first in the East and three ahead of the third-place Toronto Argonauts.
Ottawa is in Regina to face the Roughriders on Saturday.
All nine CFL teams have started at least two different quarterbacks this season.
