A 17-year-old faces multiple charges for allegedly repeatedly damaging Ellington High School’s soccer nets and burning a net at a local tennis court on Thursday morning, state police said.
The juvenile was referred to court by the Connecticut State Police and charged with four counts of second-degree criminal mischief, one count of first-degree criminal mischief and one court of sixth-degree larceny, according to release from Ellington Town Administrator Matthew Reed.
Officials said the damage had been recurring over the past two weeks. To catch the vandal, officials placed cameras around the area. According to Reed, the juvenile allegedly stole at least one of the cameras.
GPS tracking on the camera helped in identifying and locating the juvenile, Reed said.
The juvenile is set to appear in court on Sept. 24. Because the suspect is under 18 all other details are confidential, according to Reed.
According to Reed, Ellington student-athletes raised approximately $3,200 from fundraising to replace the nets.
