CT man faces murder, firearm charges in targeted shooting

A man has been arrested on murder and firearm charges in connection with a fatal shooting in Bridgeport earlier this month in which investigators say the victim was targeted.

Roshay Williams, 46, of Bridgeport turned himself in to authorities on Friday on charges of murder and criminal possession of a firearm, according to Capt. Kevin Gilleran of the Bridgeport Police Department.

Gilleran said the charges stem from the Sept. 11 killing of 37-year-old Akeem Shoucair-Grant of Bridgeport. Officers found Shoucair-Grant lying in the street suffering from multiple gunshot wounds when they responded to the 100 block of Spring Street upon receiving a ShotSpotter notification around 5:45 p.m. and a report that someone had been shot, Gilleran said.

Shoucair-Grant was rushed to an area hospital where he died.

Members of the police department’s Detective Bureau and Forensic Identification Unit responded to the scene to investigate.

According to Gilleran, detectives with the Homicide Squad found that Shoucair-Grant was “singled out” and shot multiple times before the suspect took off in a gray Chevrolet four-door sedan, which was last seen headed south on East Main Street.

Gilleran said Bridgeport Det. Tom Harper obtained a warrant for Williams’ arrest after identifying him as a suspect. Investigators worked closely with the Office of the State’s Attorney for the Bridgeport Judicial District.

“The strong partnership is closely linked to the high clearance rate for homicides in our jurisdiction and the successful prosecution of violent criminals,” Gilleran said in a statement.

Williams was held on a $1.5 million bond following his arrest and was expected to appear Friday in Bridgeport Superior Court.
