A mother is dead after being shot and killed during what police described as a “violent domestic assault” in Bridgeport on Monday.
Officers responded to the 100 block of Seaview Avenue at 8:10 p.m. on a report of shots fired and someone lying in the road before finding a woman suffering several injuries on Central Avenue just south of the Seaview Avenue intersection, according to Capt. Kevin Gilleran of the Bridgeport Police Department.
The woman was unresponsive and was pronounced dead by medics who arrived on scene, Gilleran said. Investigators identified the victim as a 27-year-old mother from Bridgeport. Authorities were withholding her name, as police were still making next of kin notifications, according to Gilleran.
Patrol officers secured the scene before the Detective Bureau’s Homicide Squad responded and took the lead on the investigation, Gilleran said. Detectives from the Forensic Identification Unit are also assisting in the investigation.
Detectives have been collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses. A preliminary investigation has suggested thus far that the woman was killed in a domestic incident in which she knew her attacker, Gilleran said.
“A strong lead has been developed in the case,” Gilleran said in a statement. “However, the Bridgeport Police Department still requests your assistance in bringing this case to a swift conclusion.”
