CT officer charged in alleged domestic violence incident

A New London police officer was arrested Saturday in connection with an alleged domestic violence incident.

On Thursday, the New London Police Department was notified that an individual went to the Waterford Police Department to report a domestic violence incident, according to New London Capt. Brian M. Wright. Police determined that the alleged domestic violence incident took place at a residence in New London.

At the same time, a member of the New London Department reported a domestic violence incident at a residence in New London, according to Wright.

Officers from New London’s Investigative Services Division, in partnership with the Office of the State’s Attorney New London Judicial District, conducted an investigation. Investigators found probable cause to arrest police officer Julio Gil-Martinez of New London, Wright said.

The 29-year-old, who has been with the New London Police Department since 2023, was arrested by warrant on Saturday and charged with second-degree threatening, third-degree assault, second-degree strangulation, first-degree unlawful restraint and interfering with an emergency call.

He was being held on a $75,000 cash-surety bond, according to Wright.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing, Wright said.
