CT state rep says ‘if you snooze, you lose’ – Hartford Courant

“So, kids, if you want a passing grade, you have to hand in your homework on time.”

We were all told this in school, right? And we accepted that if a kindly teacher were willing to accept a late essay paper, the grade dropped because we missed the deadline. But for some reason, Connecticut GOP candidates for the General Assembly think missing deadlines is OK. (“GOP Chair Riled Over Grants.”) I thank the Courant’s  Alison Cross for pointing out clearly that of the 16 races in which one candidate has not yet received public financing (Citizens Election Program) funds, 13 are because the Republican candidate failed to meet the deadline for application.

Every candidate running for office knows these CEP deadlines are hard-and-fast; most of us start qualifying early and work very hard to gather enough signatures and raise enough money to qualify for that grant. If you snooze, you lose. Unless you’re a member of the GOP, in which you case 1) believe the rules don’t apply to you; 2) fail to comply; and then 3) blame others for your failure. It’s not rocket science: do your homework, get it in on time, and get the “mark” you deserve. Maybe Ben Proto and the 16 GOP candidates still waiting for their CEP grant were “absent that day.”
