Darren Randolph could leave West Ham

Insider ExWHUemployee has claimed that West Ham United goalkeeper Darren Randolph could leave as Joseph Anang returns from loan.

What’s the word?

As we enter the final week of the January transfer window, there may yet be plenty of twists and turns as players are linked with moves both to and away from east London.

In a recent development, young shot-stopper Anang has returned from his loan spell with League One club Derby County and is expected to link up with David Moyes’ senior side.

While the 22-year-old would not be expected to play many minutes any time soon – barring injuries to the likes of Lukasz Fabianski and Alphonse Areola – this could open the door for Randolph to depart.

That is according to Ex, who explained as much in an update shared on The West Ham Way Patreon page.

He said: “A number of clubs are said to be eyeing up a move for Irish third-choice ‘keeper Darren Randolph.

“The 35-year-old is out of contract in the summer and West Ham could be about to cash in now. Bournemouth are said to be leading the race with some Championship clubs also in the mix.

“Joseph Anang has returned to the club following an injury-plagued time at Derby County. The player injured his arm and was unable to figure for the first team. It is thought his recall to the squad is said to coincide with Randolph being allowed to leave.”

Time to move on?

Anang was on the bench for just one league game during his time with Derby before injury curtailed his loan spell. While he has featured plenty of times at academy level, the 22-year-old is yet to play for the first team at West Ham.

However, as mentioned before, it’s not as if he will be expected to step onto the pitch any time soon even if Randolph does depart. Indeed, the Irishman hasn’t played once so far this season and finds himself way down in the pecking order.

At 35 years of age now, Randolph has plenty of experience – despite his lack of recent game time – with over 400 competitive games under his belt across the span of his career.

With that in mind, he could do a decent job if Bournemouth or any Championship teams do come calling. What’s more, with his contract up in the summer, he likely wouldn’t cost very much.
