David Corenswet’s Clark Kent Will Assure Henry Cavill Fans of DCU’s New Man of Steel

James Gunn’s Superman has been in the making for the past year and the hype train has left the station. Many images from the film’s production have come out in the past few months, giving fans a closer look at David Corenswet’s Superman and other members of the ensemble cast.

While fans were initially dismissive of Corenswet’s look, with many comparing him to former red cape Henry Cavill, one look finally seems to have got their approval. Many have appreciated the distinct look that Gunn has given to Superman and his secret identity Clark Kent, moving beyond just the glasses.

Ever since David Corensewet was announced as the DCU’s new Superman, fans have been up in arms. While Henry Cavill only appeared in four films in the now-defunct DCEU, he was set to return with a solo film and a clash with Black Adam after making a cameo in the anti-hero’s film in 2022. However, James Gunn’s reboot led him to depart from the role.

Fans are yet to fully accept Corenswet as the new Superman. Everything from his build to his acting ability and his resemblance to Henry Cavill has been brought up. When Gunn revealed his first-look image in Superman, his build and suit had their share of criticisms too. However, Gunn seems to have finally got one thing right.

A recent image of Corenswet in his Clark Kent avatar got much love from fans. Kent’s decision to just use glasses to mask his identity as Superman has long been a subject of jokes. But, Gunn creating a look that firmly distinguishes the two identities has been appreciated by fans.

Fans barely got to see Henry Cavill as Clark Kent in his journalist avatar as he had only one scene interviewing Bruce Wayne in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. Hence, getting more scenes of a distinguishable Clark Kent is sure to be a highlight.

James Gunn Finished Production On Superman A Year Early For VFX

One of the biggest criticisms of present-day blockbusters is that the VFX looks worse than before. Despite the technology being at a much better stage and more people being employed in the industry, big-scale projects like the films of the MCU and The Flash have received negative responses.

One of the primary reasons for this is the turnaround time for these films, with quick production timelines and overworking the VFX artists. However, James Gunn’s Superman seems to be avoiding that issue by wrapping up filming a full year before release. The filmmaker admitted that giving time for VFX was why they did it (via Threads),

This is why we wrapped on Superman a year before release and why they’ve been hard at work on many shots for months before that. This is why we start heartily editing during the shoot. It’s why I prepare so vigorously and why we only shoot finished screenplays. And Supergirl, which I’m not directing, is being handled the same way. I can’t praise the VFX artists that help us create magic enough.

Superman opens in theaters in July 2025, which seems to be a packed month for the movies as films like Jurassic World Rebirth and The Fantastic Four: First Steps are also releasing then.
