DeKalb County crash leaves 28-year-old man dead

DEKALB COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) — A crash that happened in DeKalb County left a man dead on Monday.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency said that a 2008 Saturn Astra was driving along Alabama 117 approximately four miles south of Ider when the vehicle left the roadway and hit a tree around 1:08 a.m.

ALEA has identified the driver as Garrett Matchen, 28, of Fort Payne.

Authorities said that Matchen was not using a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was pronounced dead on the scene.

The crash remains under investigation by ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division.
