Sports Mole looks at how European champions Spain could line up in their UEFA Nations League fixture with Denmark.
Lamine Yamal is among a number of absentees for Spain, as the national side conclude their 2024-25 UEFA Nations League group-stage campaign with fixtures against Denmark and Switzerland.
Yamal was not involved in Barcelona’s La Liga clash with Real Sociedad on Sunday due to “a severe contusion”, and the 17-year-old was also forced to pull out of the Spain squad for their November internationals.
Unai Simon, Pau Cubarsi, Dani Carvajal, Rodri and Gavi are also notable absentees, while Pau Torres was forced to pull out of the squad on Wednesday due to a muscular problem.
There are three uncapped players in the Spain squad, with Alex Grimaldo and Aitor Paredes rewarded for their strong form for Barcelona and Athletic Bilbao respectively during the 2024-25 campaign.
Samu Omorodion, meanwhile, has scored 12 goals in 13 appearances for Porto during the 2024-25 campaign, and the 20-year-old will be hoping to have the chance to make his mark against Denmark on Friday night.
Considering the players available, there are not expected to be any real surprises in the Spain XI on Friday, with Nico Williams, Pedri and Dani Olmo likely to support captain Alvaro Morata in the final third of the field.
Morata had been a doubt due to a head injury which he picked up during a training session with AC Milan, but the experienced striker has been cleared to feature, while Pedro Porro and Marc Cucurella are also likely to be in the XI.
Spain are top of Group 4 of League A and are already through to the quarter-finals of the competition.
Spain possible starting lineup: Raya; Porro, Vivian, Laporte, Cucurella; Zubimendi, Ruiz; Olmo, Pedri, N Williams; Morata
