Disney and DirectTV reach deal to restore ESPN, ABC for millions of viewers

Disney and DirectTV reach deal to restore ESPN, ABC for millions of viewers

Good news, sports fans.

Just in time for the kickoff of Saturday’s slate of college football games, DirectTV and Disney have made a deal that will return sports programming to the satellite TV provider.

“We’d like to thank all affected viewers for their patience and are pleased to restore Disney’s entire portfolio of networks in time for college football and the Emmy Awards this weekend,” the companies said in a joint statement.

DirectTV customers have been unable to watch NFL games on ESPN’s Monday Night Football and US Open tennis on ABC since September 1st when DirectTV stopped airing Disney channels due to a distribution dispute between the two companies, CNN reports. About 11 million viewers were impacted.

According to DirectTV, all Disney channels, including ESPN, ABC, Disney-branded channels, National Geographic, Freeform and the FX networks will return to DirectTV as a part of a multi-year contract.

Expanded access for viewers includes Disney +, Hulu and ESPN +.

Earlier this month, DirectTV had filed a complaint with the Federal Communications Commission stating that Disney had not negotiated in good faith.
