Cameron County sheriff’s deputies have arrested a man after he allegedly stabbed his co-worker in the hand near San Benito.

Jose Eleazar Rosenbaum, 25, of San Benito, was arrested Wednesday on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, which stems from allegations that he attacked his co-worker who he accused of stealing, the sheriff’s office said in a news release.

Authorities arrived at a residence in San Benito around 7:25 p.m. Wednesday in reference to the assault.

At the scene they spoke to the victim, whose identity has yet to be released, who told authorities Rosenbaum stabbed him.

Rosenbaum was “immediately detained for investigation,” according to the release.

Witness statements and surveillance footage helped authorities make the arrest after finding that Rosenbaum had arrived at the residence accusing the victim and other individuals of stealing his knives, deputies said.

That’s when the suspect allegedly pulled out a gray switchblade from his pocket.

“(Rosenbaum) lunged at the victim to stab him in his stomach but the victim reacted by blocking the attack, resulting in him getting stabbed in the hand instead,” stated the release.

Other individuals at the scene separated the two until authorities arrived.

It remains unclear in what capacity Rosenbaum and the victim were co-workers.

Rosenbaum has been transported to Carrizales-Rucker Detention Center in Olmito for his arraignment.
