DONALD Trump and Kamala Harris will meet face-to-face for their first-ever presidential debate but the two have already been throwing jabs at one another.
The former president’s campaign tore into Harris’ policy platform after it was posted on her website, calling it a “disaster.”

Vice President Harris’ campaign website is broken into four sections: “Build an Opportunity Economy and Lower Costs for Families,” “Safeguard Our Fundamental Freedoms,” “Ensure Safety and Justice for All,” and “Keep America Safe, Secure and Prosperous.”
At the bottom of the page, the campaign features how its policies contrast with “Trump’s Project 2025 Agenda,” a policy platform published by the Heritage Foundation.
Tonight’s debate comes as…
- Donald Trump and Kamala Harris are in neck and neck race ahead of the debate, according to a New York Times/Siena College national poll.
- As of Tuesday, Trump is ahead of Harris in the national polls by 1%, per the New York Times/Siena College poll.
- However, the seven battleground states, which are critical for both candidates to secure the White House, are extremely tight heading into debate night.
- Harris leads Trump by 1-2% in Wisconsin, North Carolina, and Michigan, according to the national poll.
-  Trump, on the other hand, is ahead in Georgia by 1%.
-  However, both candidates are tied in Pennsylvania, Nevada, and Arizona.
- Â Tuesday’s primetime debate will be the first time Trump and Harris face off on the national stage.
-  A former Joe Biden adviser warned Harris needs ‘quick one-liners’ in debate.
-  ‘Polling Nostradamus’ Allan Lichtman predicts Harris will defeat Trump in November.
“Kamala finally has what is very generously being described as a ‘policy page’ on her website,” read a post on the Trump War Room X account.
“She says her plan is a ‘New Way Forward,’ but she’s been in the White House for 4 years, and it’s been a total disaster.”
The Trump campaign has confirmed to the US Sun that the account is affiliated with the former president.
Trump has said publicly that he has no association with the project and his campaign has attempted to distance itself from those behind it.
“Kamala *CLAIMS* she would cut taxes for middle-class families,” read another post.
“FACT: She voted AGAINST Trump’s tax cuts which doubled the child tax credit, delivered wage increases to 6M Americans, & saved the typical family $2,000 in taxes.”
The posts included claims that Harris would give money to illegal immigrants for housing and bring “communist-style” control over the country’s food supply.
The Trump campaign has also blamed Harris for higher inflation, claiming that she wouldn’t bring down health care costs.
Four of the 11 posts in the thread mention either the southwest border or immigration, calling Harris the “border czar” who purposely left the border insecure, allowing “20M illegals – including terrorists, murderers, & rapists, and is attempting to turn them into American citizens with voting rights and benefits.”
While serving as vice president, Harris was tasked with reducing migration from Central and Southern America.
However, Trump’s campaign argues that she failed in her role.
“Kamala *CLAIMS* she would take the fentanyl epidemic seriously. She doesn’t care.
“Since Harris took office, roughly 32.4 TONS of fentanyl have crossed the southern border, enough to kill roughly 14.7 billion people,” read another post.
Trump’s running mate, Ohio senator JD Vance, also slammed Harris on X, particularly her tenure as the California Attorney General – which she served from 2011 to 2017.
“One of the reasons why California has so much migrant crime is because it is a sanctuary state that shields illegal aliens from deportation,” Vance wrote in a lengthy post.
What is Project 2025?
Project 2025 has gained widespread attention during the 2024 presidential election race.
The project is a collection of conservative and right-wing policy proposals meant to reshape the United States federal government.
These proposed policies aim to consolidate executive power but rely on the Republican Party candidate winning the 2024 presidential election.
According to Project 2025, it will be built on four pillars: a policy agenda, personnel, training, and a 180-day playbook.
The 922-page project makes several policy proposals including reshaping the powers of the executive branch, according to The Hill.
The project, also known as the 2025 Presidential Transition Project, also calls for the removal of several small government agencies.
Although Trump has backed several of the proposed policies in his 2024 campaign speeches, he has also distanced himself from Project 2025.
In July 2024, Trump insisted he had nothing to do with it.
His campaign said in a statement, “Reports of Project 2025’s demise would be greatly welcomed and should serve as notice to anyone or any group trying to misrepresent their influence with President Trump and his campaign — it will not end well for you.”
“Hence foreign criminals feel more protected in California. Another thing Attorney General Harris did as California’s AG was write a 2015 letter to the US Senate defending California’s sanctuary state policies and opposing a bill that would penalize the state’s noncooperation with federal immigration law.
“It is safe to assume that there would have been a lot fewer migrant criminals to prosecute in California if the state and AG Kamala had allowed ICE agents to do their jobs and deport them.”
KAMALA CLAPS BACK
However, Harris’ campaign website tells a different story, slamming then-President Donald Trump for killing the border deal “for his political gain.”
“Donald Trump is a convicted criminal who only cares about himself,” the website read, referring to Trump being found guilty on 34 counts of falsifying business records.
“He’s proven that time and time again – from caving to the gun lobby and doing nothing to address gun violence to killing the bipartisan border security deal that would secure our border and keep America safe, just to help himself politically.
“If elected president, Trump will implement his Project 2025 agenda to consolidate power, bring the Department of Justice and the FBI under his direct control so he can give himself unchecked legal power and go after his opponents, and rule as a dictator on ‘day one.'”
Can Donald Trump still be president if he is convicted before the election?
The U.S. Sun spoke to a legal expert on the question of whether Donald Trump can still serve as president if he is in prison.
“If Donald Trump is found guilty, even if he’s sentenced to prison, which is unlikely in the New York case, he can still be president,” former prosecutor Neama Rahmani told The U.S. Sun.
“There’s nothing prohibiting a convicted felon from being president of the United States.
“Theoretically, Trump could be in prison and still be president of the United States, earning the Constitution.
“The only requirements are that he be 35 and be born in the United States and not have engaged in an insurrection.”
Harris echoed this stance on X writing, “Let me be clear: That will never happen.”
The Harris campaign said that as president, she would sign the bipartisan border security bill into law.
“At the same time, she knows that our immigration system is broken and needs comprehensive reform that includes strong border security and an earned pathway to citizenship.”
LOCKING DOWN
Harris and Trump will square off at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia, which has been turned into a security-tight fortress ahead of the debate.
Security has remained a top priority since Trump was injured at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
Tall barricades have been placed all around the center as Philadelphia Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel said that his focus was on ensuring a safe event.
“We will have a substantial number of men and women down out on the ground supporting the efforts in that area,” he said.

- Tuesday, July 16 – The FBI warns of more potential violence in the wake of Trump’s shooting. Intelligence claims Iran had a separate plot to assassinate Trump, but there is no proven link to Crooks. Biden returns to the campaign trail for the first time since the assassination attempt and insists he isn’t stepping down.
- Wednesday, July 17 – Joe Biden tests positive for Covid, just days after saying he would drop out of the presidential race if he was diagnosed with a medical condition. It intensifies the calls for him to step aside with Kamala Harris and Gavin Newsom floated as potential replacements. At the RNC, JD Vance makes his first speech since being selected as Trump’s VP pick, to the delight of the MAGA crowd.
- Thursday, July 18 – Donald Trump addresses the RNC, his first speech since surviving an attempted assassination. He appears slower and more subdued than usual but gives the longest convention acceptance speech in US history. Just before he goes on, former wrestler Hulk Hogan rips his shirt off and tells cheering crowds “Trumpomania” will sweep America. Former First Lady Melania, who has barely been seen on the campaign trail, makes an appearance but does not speak. Barack Obama joins calls for Biden to step aside.
- Friday, July 19 – President Biden appears to consider resigning, as a source says he is in a “contemplative stage” while isolating with Covid. Video emerges showing Biden appearing to lean into the wrong woman after mistaking her for his wife Jill. - Saturday, July 20 – Donald Trump holds his first campaign rally since the shooting in Butler. He appears in Michigan without his ear bandage. His former doctor Ronny Jackson describes his injuries. He appears in his first interview alongside his running mate Vance. Senior Democrat Nancy Pelosi speaks for the first time since being linked to growing calls for Biden to resign. Meanwhile, Biden’s reelection campaign continues to insist he is running, as a spokesperson slams Trump’s rally remarks as showing he is “focused only on himself.”
- Sunday, July 21 – Joe Biden announces he isn’t running in November in a shock letter, just hours after insisting he was staying in the race. He is the first incumbent to step down in their first term since 1968. Biden endorses Kamala Harris for president as senior Dems through their support behind the Vice President. The news appears to throw the Republicans off their stride. Biden vows to continue his term until November’s election.
- Monday, July 22 – Kamala Harris raises a record $81 million in 24 hours as she secures the Democratic candidacy. She also inherits some $91 million in leftover campaign funds from Biden. Harris gives her first speech since Biden stepped out, and speaks to the president on the phone, although he doesn’t appear in person. Under-pressure Secret Service chief Kimberly Cheatle appears on Capitol Hill and faces increasing calls to resign over the shooting of Trump. She admits the Secret Service “failed” on July 13 and resigns the following day.
Bethel added that they will have off-duty staff coming in to support with security measures.
“We have been able to bring additional assets, men and women who are off duty to come in and support that,” Bethel continued.
“We do this in a collective way to be able to manage this effectively.”

“We will have our Office of Emergency Management up and activated tomorrow, and work in collaboration across the entire city government with local state and other partners to ensure we have a safe event,” Bethel said per ABC 6.
As a result of the extra security, residents were told to “expect residual delays on surrounding roadways” as some lanes on the Ben Franklin Bridge will be closed.
