Donna High School’s head football coach has resigned following his arrest Sunday.

District Public Relations Officer Sandra Quintanilla confirmed Monday that the administration was notified of Mike Gonzales’ arrest in a statement.

Gonzales tendered his resignation which was promptly accepted, the statement said.

“On Sunday, September 15, 2024, Donna ISD administration was notified of the arrest of Donna High School Coach Mike Gonzales. District policy prohibits us from releasing specific details regarding the individual involved,” the statement read. “However, we can confirm that Mr. Gonzales tendered his resignation and it was promptly accepted. As this is an employment matter, no further comment will be made regarding Mr. Gonzales’ employment.”

Booking records indicate he is charged with assault of a family member.

Gonzales bailed out of the Hidalgo County Adult Detention Center on Monday on a $2,500 bond, records show.

He was arrested by the Weslaco Police Department.
