Down-to-earth bride and groom ditch wedding guests to nip to GREGGS – keeping up their cute ‘tradition’

A BRIDE and groom snuck out of their own wedding to go to GREGGS – to keep up the tradition of one of their first dates.

Louise Clark, 27, and Connor Clark, 28, were married at a registry office in Glasgow on August 3 and decided to head to their ‘favourite spot’ for a snack and some alone time away from their 33 guests.

The newlyweds admitted that friends and family “had no idea” the Greggs superfans had visited the bakery for a casual wedding breakfast until they re-joined them half an hour later – just in time for their official meal.

They enjoyed free ‘Mr and Mrs’ doughnuts and cold drinks in the city’s Kelvinbridge branch, and even staged a mini photoshoot with staff.

And unlike other loved-up couples, the bride says her favourite snap of her big day is one of her devouring a sprinkled ring doughnut in her dress outside the fast food chain.

Mum-of-one Louise said: “Our guests had no idea we’d gone to Greggs. They didn’t come with us. I think they went to the pub.

“My husband and I shared one doughnut because we knew we were going for food so I brought the other doughnut with me. They said ‘no way, you did not go to Greggs. That is so you’.”

The parents, who have been together for 13 years, met when they were aged 14 at school.

They revealed their “fondest memories” were going on dates at Greggs and that they’ve kept up the “tradition”.

Lousie, a merchandiser who lives in Glasgow, added: “We absolutely love going to Greggs. We’ve been together since we were in high school.

“When you’re that age you don’t have a lot of money. One of my fondest memories of the earliest dating stages was sitting in one of the shopping malls in Glasgow with a Greggs.

“That was one of our early dates. We couldn’t afford anything else. We wanted to keep up the tradition. It’s definitely a regular occurrence in our family.”

And the down-to-earth couple will always have their Greggs wedding photos to look back on.

“It was really special. It was unexpected but just a huge part of the day and something I’ll remember forever”, reveals Louise.

“We thought we’d sit outside and take in the scenery. I knew it would be really good pictures because we love Greggs so much.

“Because we were having dinner I thought I wouldn’t get anything to eat. The staff gave us free ‘Mr and Mrs’ doughnuts while we sat outside.

“So many came up to us and said ‘that’s such a nice idea, enjoy your day’.

“The staff were amazing and made it really special.

“I didn’t think these pictures would be as good as they were. It was just the right thing. When I got the photos I was blown away, they were actually my favourite pictures. Especially the one of me eating the doughnut.

“The day was so chaotic and hectic. Because we were getting pictures and it was non-stop, it was really nice to just sit down outside Greggs and relax. It was really nice just me and my husband.”

Louise has since gone viral on TikTok after sharing pictures alongside the caption “when you love Greggs so much you go in on your wedding day”.

And people have hailed the pair as “iconic” for their untraditional idea.

It’s not the first time that Greggs has played a big part in special milestones, with the fast food chain becoming a favourite amongst celebrities.

Singer Olly Murs held a Greggs-inspired baby shower for his wife and most recently, reality TV star Vicky Pattison enjoyed a Greggs-inspired wedding reception.

Newlyweds Louise and Connor now want to encourage others to visit their “favourite spots” on their wedding day.

Louise said: “I recommend other newlyweds to do it. Vicky Patterson had the truck the other day, what a great idea.

“If someone has something that’s one of their favourite spots and they go there, you’ll never forget it. Especially if you have a photographer. It’s just so memorable and time for you guys.”
