First announced in 2023, fans are eagerly waiting for the fall release of Dragon Ball DAIMA. The anime will tell an original story written by the legendary Akira Toriyama himself. Being the creator’s last project, DAIMA is an extremely important series for the fandom. A new trailer was recently released, and fans can’t stop gushing over it. From the animation style to the glimpses of the characters, the trailer is both nostalgic and reminiscent of the original series.
While Dragon Ball DAIMA is on the mind of every fan, there’s more that they are looking forward to. The care and attention that have been poured into the series are making fans hopeful about the future of the Dragon Ball series. There are some projects that they would like to see in the future, post-DAIMA. The constant chatter about what might be the next project is a testament to the rich legacy of the series.
Here’s What Fans Want Next from the Dragon Ball Franchise
As soon as the Dragon Ball DAIMA trailer was released, fans were pleased with the animation quality. However, there are two things most fans are looking forward to in the near future: Dragon Ball DAIMA games and the return of Dragon Ball Super. With the pre-existing hype around the series, Akira Toriyama’s DAIMA is bound to attract a lot of attention. Fans are hoping that the attention translates into the creation of other projects, especially JRPG games inspired by the series.
One of the things I hope we get from #DragonBallDaima is the creation of video games based on the show. A classic, 90s beat-em-up and an adventure JRPG. They’re gonna be in #SparkingZero, so that will fill the fighting game quota. pic.twitter.com/lQ60zbZkZb

I would kill for a new top down view GBA type dragon ball game. Legacy of Goku was so damn good. Doesn’t need great graphics but hd-2d would look amazing.

The return of Dragon Ball Super is the best thing that could happen at this point in time. However, given that both the manga and the anime are on an indefinite hiatus with no information regarding their potential return, the games seem like the more likely possibility. The last episode of Dragon Ball Super before the hiatus, aired in 2018. Since then, it has been six years with no updates.
The manga’s hiatus might have pushed back the anime’s return even more. The last chapter before the hiatus was published in March 2024. For now, the future of Dragon Ball Super appears quite bleak.
When Will it be Dragon Ball Super’s Turn?
After looking at the high quality of animation in DAIMA, fans are wishing Dragon Ball Super anime to get the same treatment. With its last episode, the anime reached the end of the Tournament of Power Saga in the manga. Since then, more than fifty chapters have been released, leaving almost four arcs unadapted. There’s enough content for almost a hundred episodes if the anime follows the same standards as the pre-hiatus schedule of Super.
Furthermore, if the manga resumes serialization, there’ll be more chapters coming out every month. Hopefully, the success of DAIMA will inspire the creators to push for what fans want from the franchise. Although, it seems like just wishful thinking at this point. All we can do for now is wait, but on the brighter side, there’s Dragon Ball DAIMA coming out in the meantime!
Dragon Ball DAIMA is scheduled for an October 11, 2024 release. The rest of the Dragon Ball Series is available for streaming on Crunchyroll.
