Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece has been a huge name that has kept fans hooked for 25 years with its gripping story and immersive world featuring a wide array of characters. However, it was Akira Toriyama’s Dragon Ball that started it all, and even after four decades, the series proved to be strong despite criticism following it.
Toriyama-Sensei’s magnum opus has remained as popular as it was back in the day when many viewers would call it the face of the Shonen genre. Despite the show struggling to find its footing in the initial days, once it found its flow, it became what we would call a key part of our childhood.
Even Dragon Ball Super, which has often been criticized, overshadowed Oda-Sensei’s stellar work, where fans would watch the latter. Despite so much fame and love surrounding it, the series refrains from coming up with the second of DBS that fans have been waiting for so long.
Dragon Ball’s Unreal Hyped Eclipsed One Piece in Major Aspect
Akira Toriyama came up with Dragon Ball in 1984, which turned out to be his greatest work, and how quitting his original work was the best decision he could take. A ton of reasons followed behind the celebration of the show, but the most contributing factor would be Son-Goku, who became the most recognized fictional face of anime.
The protagonist became a part of our lives and inspired us that staying static is never an option and we must always push ourselves to grow and be a better version of yesterday. With such an inspiring theme, the series grew close to our hearts, and growing up watching it made it so nostalgic. Hence, Dragon Ball Super deviated from the mangaka’s iconic style.
Nevertheless, the series remained as popular as it aired for the first time back in the day. Interestingly enough, the fame surrounding the show was so great that it made the show a golden egg for Toei Animation that overshadowed the show, which many people called the undisputed King of the Shonen genre.
In a report shared by a fan (@DbsHype) on X, it was tweeted how the studio’s financial result report for the first half of the year helped it earn a fortune alone. However, that’s not all because Toriyama-Sensei’s series demolished Eiichiro Oda’s magnum opus.

In the reports, it was shown that Toriyama-Sensei’s work earned ¥3,463 million, while the other series earned ¥1,841 million domestically. However, the age-old series left the adventured show in the dust, as it became the most profitable licensed franchise overseas, having a worth of ¥3,688 million while its competitor had a worth of only ¥1,124.
With so much success following the series, the animation studio surprisingly never returned with the second season of DBS, which specialized in featuring epic fights with alluring animation, and it continues to keep its fans in the dark.
Toei Animation Gives No Hints on DB Super 2
When DBS came to an end in 2018, it was believed that the series would soon return to the fans’ screens. The anime turned out to be a well-responded series despite taking a few different turns from the original series and ideas.
In the same year, fans received a film that officially made Broly a part of the DBS verse. However, more than that, fans wanted Moro Arc to be animated and streamed on their screens; hence, many theories followed, with one being the manga advancing some more for the show to catch up.
However, that was not the case because the manga is based on the anime and has well progressed since then. Moreover, in 2023, it was announced by the animation studio that Dragon Ball DAIMA will be the latest project, and they would prefer to head in that direction.
With DAIMA being streamed and new episodes being released weekly, it is right to believe that DBS Season 2 will take even longer to return. Fans should not lose hope because, on the brighter side, it will give the studio to plan out the show more carefully because it will feature more content and more episodes.
Hence, it can be assumed that the show is in the very early stages of production, and it would take a couple of years at least to announce the next season.
