BRENDAN RODGERS’ side didn’t slip up at Hampden – but HE DID.
Celtic raced into a 3-0 lead in Saturday evening’s delayed Premier Sports Cup semi-final against Aberdeen.
A massive pyro display in the Hoops end created a smoke cloud over Hampden and visibility was so poor ref Kevin Clancy had to delay the kick-off.
Eventually the smoke cleared after more than 13 minutes wait and the game was able to start.
And when it did Celtic were on the ball and found the net through Cameron Carter-Vickers, Kyogo Furuhashi and Daizen Maeda.
It brought a smile to Brendan Rodgers’ face – and he even had the chance to laugh at HIMSELF shortly before half-time – as he got on the ball too.
With his side coasting to an interval lead the ball ended up in his technical area at the National Stadium.
Moments earlier he’s feigned to strike the ball.
But seconds before the whistle he DID – only it didn’t turn out as he’d have hoped.
And it earned him a BOOKING as well.
The boss booted the ball back onto the pitch after it had been kicked out for a throw-in.
But His footwear wasn’t the best and as he swung his leg he lost his grip on the slippery surface and hit the DECK.
It brought a cheer from the crowd and Rodgers acknoeledged the moment by holding his hands and waving to the south stand with a smile.
But that soon faded when Clancy took action and flashed the yellow card at the gaffer when he turned back round to face the pitch.
However there was only one boss smiling at half-time with a convincing first-half performance against a lacklustre Aberdeen team putting the Scottish champions ahead against the unbeaten Dons.
Celtic had led at the break when the sides met in the league last month though – and Aberdeen fought back to claim a point.
And Jimmy Thelin looks to be ready to ring the changes in his own side and was spotted with his coaches delivering instructions to some of his subs.
The winner of the clash will meet the winner of tomorrow’s other semi-final at Hampden, between Rangers and Motherwell.
