Emily in Paris Season 5 Needs to Avoid Repeating 1 Horrid Mistake Darren Star Made With ‘Sex and the City’ to Avoid Becoming Netflix’s Most Hated Show

Darren Star certainly knows how to keep fans of his shows on edge, and that is precisely what’s being done with Netflix’s Emily in Paris. This show has successfully run the romance, drama/comedy scene for four incredible seasons. While there is no official confirmation on Season 5, fans are concerned with how the storyline capped off during its latest season.

Emily Cooper, played by Lily Collins, is an American hired by a marketing firm in Paris to provide them with her expertise. However, the character also goes through a series of learning curves, life experiences, and a lot more in the mix. And obviously, why create a television show without a touch of romance in it? But that’s where Darren Star tends to mess it all up.

Fans are dreading to witness Darren Star potentially derail Emily Cooper’s growth in a possible fifth-season

Before the last season ended, Emily Cooper’s love life involved two individuals. One was Gabriel, a charming man who didn’t care much about Emily’s feelings. However, during the episode when Gabriel, Emily, and Camille (Gabriel’s ex-partner) go skiing, the marketing expert gets left behind on top of the mountain.

There, she bumped into a charming young fellow named Marcello, played by Eugenio Franceschini. Shortly after the interaction, Emily breaks up with Gabriel after he expresses his frustrations about having to speak in English around her.

Lily Collins‘ character ends up starting a new chapter in Rome while Gabriel tends to Camille thinking that she’s pregnant with his child. Meanwhile, Emily tries to pursue Marcello while in Rome. However, the ultimate curveball in their romance is when Marcello’s family decides to hire JVMA to lead marketing operations for their fashion line.

While it was a wondrous business move for Sylvie (Emily’s boss), it came at the expense of Emily’s romance with Marcello. Eventually, it began to seem like Emily got close to Marcello just to capture the company. He made sure to express his frustrations but Emily tried to make him believe otherwise.

The story switches up when Gabriel slowly comes to realize that he wants to pursue Emily again. With a little bit of encouragement from Alfie, his closest friend, Gabriel makes a move to reel Emily back into his life. This is where fans believe that Darren Star might mess up.

On one hand, there is Marcello, a great man who wants the best for Emily. On the other, Gabriel has all the charm but his actions never live up to his words. As you can see, everybody wants Emily to end up with Marcello.

Star tends to pair up the lead characters with the worst possible on-screen partner. For example, he had Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) from Sex and the City paired up with a toxic Mr. Big while Aidan was the obvious “good choice”.

While Aidan was definitely the better boyfriend to Carrie as he was emotionally available and always wished well for her, she settled for a disrespectful womanizer, according to many SATC fans. Who would want to be with a person who leaves them at the altar? Perhaps, Carries was indeed blinded by what she thought was love.

Will there be a fifth season for Emily in Paris?

Unfortunately, nothing has been made official yet. Emily in Paris currently has a good enough storyline to build on for a fifth season, but Netflix hasn’t announced the show’s return yet.

Besides Emily Cooper’s life in Rome, fans are also looking forward to Mindy starting over in Shanghai as a judge on a popular Chinese show, after her break up with Nicolas. Emily could also potentially move to Rome after Sylvie decided to start a new office in the country.

So will Darren Star rename the show to “Emily in Rome”? Well, not really. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Star revealed that he won’t be making a change to the name.

We’ll spend some time in Rome. But she did not change her Instagram handle to Emily in Rome… They can be in more than one city, and Emily can spend time in Rome. She can spend time in Paris, too. She’s not leaving Paris.

As per USA Today, a walk-on role was auctioned for $277,000 allowing the winner to spend an entire day on the set of Emily in Paris, in the City of Love. However, it would only happen if a fifth season gets produced in the future.

Emily in Paris can be streamed on Netflix.
