The summer 2023 transfer window was a busy one at Celtic following Brendan Rodgers‘ return as manager.

Luis Palma, Paulo Bernardo, Yang Hyun-jun and Odin Thiago Holm were among the new recruits.

Also arriving at Parkhead the summer before last was Marco Tilio.

The Australian winger arrived from Melbourne City in a deal worth £1.5million.

Tilio had enjoyed a stellar season for the A-League club, scoring 10 goals in 31 games as they finished top of the regular season table.

But before his Celtic career ever got a chance to get going, injury struck.

As a result, it wasn’t until November – almost five months after his signing – when Tilio was able to make his Hoops bow.

After just two first team appearances, he returned to Australia, rejoining former club Melbourne City on loan until the end of the season in January this year.

But any hopes of kick-starting his career once more quickly fell apart as injury woe struck again and ravaged his return to Australia.

A hamstring injury cost him just shy of two months of action between February and April.

Tilio returned before the end of the campaign but suffered yet ANOTHER injury on his return to action and was ruled out until the end of the season.

He wound up making just four appearances back at Melbourne City.

After that stop-start season that never really got going, Celtic announced in the summer that Tilio would once again be returning to Melbourne City on loan.

But yet again, it’s been a season that has started with injury problems.

The A-League campaign only got up and running a few weeks ago, with Tilio playing the full 90 minutes in Melbourne City’s first two games of the season.

But this morning, in their third game, Tilio was forced-off just 40 minutes in.

The 23-year old fell to the ground clutching his hamstring as the first-half approached its conclusion.

After being helped to his feet by his teammates, Tilio was visibly gutted and appeared to be reduced to tears.

The emotional ace covered his face with his hand and then his shirt as he was helped off of the field.

Fans flooded social media with comments sharing their heartache for the winger.

One said: “I feel horrible for Marco Tilio.”

A second added: “It’s hard not to feel bad for Marco Tilio. Looks to be going under another injury setback, all the talent he has he just can’t keep himself fit.”

A third posted: “Marco Tilio’s reaction said it all. Loan stint at Melbourne City from Celtic has been hampered by injuries. Such a shame.”
