Even George R.R. Martin Fans are Fed Up With His Constant ‘Whining’ About House of the Dragon After Creating the ‘Frankenstein’ Himself

The second season of House of the Dragon, though successful, was pretty lackluster when compared to its debut season. Season 2 peaked in the middle, then fell off at the end, something we have seen before in the case of Game of Thrones. And there’s good reason for that.

A Song of Ice and Fire author George R. R. Martin, whose creations have been the basis for the two shows, has been pretty unhappy with the route showrunners have taken. Even his chosen one, Ryan Condal, seems to have strayed from the path.

When plans for House of the Dragon were put in place, George R. R. Martin had great hopes to correct the wrongs done to his previous brainchild, Game of Thrones. That’s why he personally picked Ryan Condal for the idea, who was a big fan of Martin and his works.

The first season worked tremendously well. Both Martin and HBO were clinking glasses at the premiere party because they knew the adaptation would be a success. However, that changed after Season 2 arrived.

After fans began to complain about the many inaccuracies of the second installment, Martin joined them and announced in a riveting post about how he will point them out himself. And boy, oh boy, his next post created an explosion.

In a now-deleted (thanks to HBO) post, the Fire & Blood author didn’t hold back, going into detail about how Condal and HBO kept cutting off characters for the sake of budget, and how they have more such plans to make changes in place.

It seems like George R. R. Martin didn’t learn any lessons from his last rodeo with HBO, where David Benioff and D. B. Weiss went to great lengths to create their own ending to Game of Thrones. And fans are p*ssed at him for that.

There has been an uproar on social media after Martin revealed that the changes weren’t his idea. Fans have been blaming him for not taking more creative control of his adaptations in his own hands.

Martin’s recent revelations have sparked fury among fans, which might be problematic for the upcoming adaptations HBO has put in place. For now, the corporate giant has silenced the matter. But for how long? And how will this war between Martin and HBO play out? We can just observe with bated breaths, and see if anything changes in the upcoming GOT spinoffs.

Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon are streaming on Max.
