Every Major Upset at the 76th Emmy Awards – Jon Hamm, Jennifer Aniston, Tadanobu Asano Go Empty-Handed This Time

It’s the time of the year again when fans celebrate the winners of the Emmy Awards, but also lament the loss of their favorite series and actors. Just like anything in life, loss is another lesson that teaches us how to strive for the better the next time around.

Unfortunately, many losses for this year’s Emmy event were shocking and even upsetting. It’s still difficult to wrap our heads around the fact that these promising and deserving nominees went home without that precious golden statuette.

Here Are The Most Disappointing Losses at 2024 Emmy Awards

The 76th Emmy Awards was attended by hopefuls vying for that coveted win, the symbolic status of prestige and acknowledgment for work done with effort and passion. This year, the shocking twist did not only occur once but many times.

Take, for instance, Christopher Storer’s The Bear losing out on the outstanding comedy series against Hacks was probably the biggest disappointment. The comedy-drama series starring Jeremy Allen White has been the buzz of the town for quite a long time and the show has remained a fan-favorite.

HBO’s Curb Your Enthusiasm was also a major snub. After receiving critical acclaim for its writing and improvisational comedy, it was a bummer that it didn’t take home anything, not even the outstanding lead actor in a comedy series award for Larry David.

Jon Hamm’s Emmy snub for Fargo was a total dismay for fans. The modern take on the Western-themed black comedy-crime drama was lauded by critics so it remains a puzzle why he failed to nab the award.

Jennifer Aniston’s defeat as the outstanding lead actress in a drama series was a massive regret for her fans. It’s quite a tight competition though, as she fought against newcomer Anna Sawai of Shōgun and Carrie Coon of The Gilded Age.

One of this year’s most promising supporting actors is Tadanobu Asano. He gained international fame for playing the villain in the Japanese-language series Shōgun. When everyone thought he would be taking tonight’s victory, the Emmy went to The Morning Show’s Billy Crudup.

This year’s awards night yielded mixed reactions from the viewers, and even though some of the announced winners left us shocked and perplexed, we cannot deny that many of them deserve accolades for their invaluable efforts and talents.

Hacks’ Jean Smart celebrates her win for the lead actress in a comedy series opposite Jeremy Allen White for The Bear. From the same project, Liza Colón-Zayas earned a supporting actress win and Ebon Moss-Bachrach for the supporting actor category of a comedy series.

For the lead actor in a limited series, Richard Gadd of Baby Reindeer won, alongside Jodie Foster of True Detective: Night Country for the lead actress part. Lamorne Morris of Fargo snagged best supporting actor in a limited series while Baby Reindeer’s Jessica Gunning won best supporting actress counterpart.

The Traitors beat out its competitors after taking home the outstanding reality/competition series. Last Week Tonight With John Oliver also made history after winning the outstanding scripted variety series. Finally, The Daily Show was crowned the victor for outstanding talk series.
